We are really proud to announce that Remarkable Design’s dedicated web server at UK Fast, is now carbon neutral. This means that all sites hosted by Remarkable, will also be balancing their carbon offsets and doing something good for the environment!

On average, a company website creates 1 tonne of CO2e every year. This is the equivalent weight of 2 adult male polar bears or 10 baby elephants and would fill the volume of a 3 bedroom home.

Data centres emit tonnes of CO2 every year. In fact, the CO2 produced by the world’s 44 million servers is approaching that of entire countries such as Argentina and is predicted to reach 533 million tonnes by 2020.

Companies can quickly and easily neutralise emissions from their website by choosing a BSI PAS 2060 certified carbon neutral hosting provider. UKFast is the world’s first hosting provider to achieve this certification, using renewable hydro-electric power to neutralize its entire operation, including all new and existing client solutions.

Displaying the 100% carbon neutral stamp on your website is also great for business, at a time when:

40% of Britons will pay 10% more for products that are better for the environment15
65% of consumers now describe themselves ethical consumers16
59% of people will now recommend a company based upon a responsible reputation16
1291% growth on expenditure on energy efficient appliances since 199916
1000% increase in spending on products that tackle climate change since 199916
52% of people bought primarily for ethical reasons in 200916
Don’t miss out on what Richard Branson describes as the greatest entrepreneurial
opportunity in history. Start making a difference today to neutralise your website.

Interested in building a carbon neutral website with us? Then please get in touch by phone on 01244 563934 or by e-mail at mail@remarkable-design.co.uk

Remarkable were commissioned to produce the programmes for The Hammond School Senior and Junior school summer performances. In line with The Hammond’s strong creative abilities these publications needed the greatest creative flair to portray the performances to their maximum.

As always the studio team stepped up to the mark with both a 24 and 20 page souvenir programme for each production. Under Non’s guidance the usual business constraints were cast aside and a more artistic flair was let loose in the studio. The end result was a stunning pair of programmes.

I was fortunate enough to attend the Senior school performance of 42nd Street and what an awesome performance it was! Considering the cast were still at school, it was a performance that would not be out of place in the West End.

The performances are open to the public so keep your eye out for the next ones, they are well worth attending.

Having updated the branding of the company nearly 3 years ago, we have been working closely with John McLintock and his team to build the brand, both locally and in the North West.

The original website was created at the same time and was now due a refresh. We worked with McLintocks to analyse the use and aims of the website, and how and where it could be improved to better meet the needs of the business 3 years on.

“The practice has changed somewhat since the original website was created and we felt there was a need to reflect this in a new refreshed site. The finished product now gives a true reflection of how we have developed and the new markets we are now working in.” – John McLintock, Senior Partner

The website now features a new and improved online brand image, combined with a full content management system allowing for regular updates to be added. Using the new site in conjunction with other on and offline marketing will be highly beneficial to McLintocks, and we’re very proud to have been involved in the project thus far.

Moving forward we will help the team at McLintocks on an ongoing basis to ensure the website continues to meet the needs of the business and fulfils it’s role as a sales tool as well as an online resource for both clients and staff.

The event was organised by one of our major clients, TWF (the Winning Formula) who are HIBS main business sponsor. John Stein (MD of TWF) is a long standing fan of HIBS and makes the 500 mile trip to all of HIBS games which shows a really commitment to his home club.

The event itself took the form of a business breakfast, to which HIBS had invited prominent major business’s along to hear what they could be doing to survive and thrive in these tough times. This strong link between TWF and HIBS offers HIBS business supporters a great opportunity to take a bit of time out to reflect on their strategic direction and John always ensures businesses go away with plenty of ideas and tips to help drive their businesses forward.

The winning (formula)® provides practical hands-on business growth and performance development programmes, events and training workshops to ambitious growing organisations in the UK. Working with some of best known business leaders and fast growing businesses, they have a proven track record in developing senior managers, middle managers and their teams.

Remarkable supplied the handouts for the event along with banner stands. But to be honest we just wanted to visit such a prestigious club!

There are millions of companies out there, all with their own logos and brand identities. To make your company stand out above the competition, we always bear in mind these five main points below to get outstanding logo design:

1. Simplicity

Having a simple logo makes it easy to recognise and will leave more of an impact. Logos that offer something unique or that includes a bit of personality can be even more impressive.

2. Memorable

Memorable logos go hand in hand with simple logos, these are often achieved by simplifying things, such as keeping the colours in a logo down, or by not having too many intricate details. This can make logos a lot easier to recognise and distinguish from all the competition out there.

3. Timeless

A timeless logo doesn’t look dated in 5-10 years, going with the present trends. It should still be effective over several years, with none or minimal retouching/refreshing.

4. Versatile

A versatile logo is one that can be used on a variety of different coloured backgrounds or medias without losing any of the impact. This also includes resizing the logo to miniscule sizes, and is still recognisable. At Remarkable we create logos as a vector to make sure your logo can be scaled to whatever size you need it.

5. Appropriate

A logo should have some relevance to what it is representing, there should be a list of qualities that come across in the logo, which represents the company. It is important to consider the company’s target audience when judging whether the logo is appropriate.

5 ways a video can help your website

The internet and it’s associated technologies are constantly evolving and improving, and with the advent of much faster broadband connections and more advanced software, it has never been more beneficial to invest in a professional, tailor-made video or animation for your website or promotional purposes.

1. Promotional Videos

Present your business and it’s products and services with interesting, quirky and attention-grabbing videos to engage the site visitor immediately. Promotional videos are a great way to connect with your audience, and could increase your online product or service sales significantly.

2. Testimonials

Show your prospective clients what they’re currently missing by delivering honest feedback from satisfied customers and happy staff. By using a video format it demonstrates an open and honest approach to your client’s opinions, and shows that your business cares about delivering quality.

3. Video Tours

If your business is experience or leisure-based you could be missing a trick by not using video tours to show off your attraction or property. Organisations such as visitor attractions, hotels, golf courses, leisure clubs, garden centres etc… are far more likely to attract visitors by giving them a ‘taster’ of what to expect before they arrive.

4. Events

Capturing your special event, celebration, festival or show on video is a brilliant way of distributing an example of the experience to your clients, whether it’s to promote next year’s event or your own business’s involvement it will make potential clients and/or visitors feel like they’re already there!

5. Product Demonstrations

Videos showing products are a fantastic way to show potential purchasers the benefits and features of your specific product over its competitors. Whether it’s a “how-to” instruction manual or a snappy product overview video, it could make a massive difference to someone’s buying decision.

What’s more, having video or animation content can create great opportunities for your website by adding significantly to your search engine optimisation efforts. Linking to Youtube and other sites can help web users to locate your website, and Google now use videos on search result pages, so your company would clearly stand out against your competition.

A shiny sales catalogue full of all your lovely products – what more could you customers want? Professional-looking product catalogues and sales literature are essential in attracting, retaining and communicating with your customers. Through using effective design and layout techniques, your sales brochure or mail order catalogue could:

Expand your customer base

Generate sales

Be an advertising and marketing tool in it’s own right

Encourage and increase website traffic

Extend your ‘brand experience’

Allow for departmental cross-over of products from your clients

Reach customers who are not in the immediate retail environment

Display the full range of your products

But we know how daunting it can be to produce a whole catalogue by yourself, that’s why we’ve put together 7 essential things to remember when designing your product sales catalogue:

1. Good photography pays dividends

DIY Photography is a common mistake made by professional businesses trying to save money. Good, professional photography is highly affordable, and by using great photos of your products in your sales literature and catalogues they will sell themselves. Remember the clients who you are communicating with aren’t physically in contact with your products, so you need to show them looking their best, and representing the quality business that you are.

Remember: ‘Grabbing’ images from the website and using them within your literature is infringement of copyright, so make sure you have permission from any sources you use.

2. Your audience and their lifestyle aspirations

Although it might sound over the time, your audience will make a buying decision about your product based on what it can do for them within their lifestyle or business environment. Showing the product and it’s benefits within context will help sell your product or service.

3. How your product catalogue fits into your brand strategy?

Your sales literature, catalogues, website, leaflets, brochures, direct mail, even your sales people, are an extension of your brand and it’s unique values and personality. The whole integrate marketing campaign must work together to give the customer the ‘brand experience’ you desire so they come back time and time again. Make sure your product catalogues match your website in content, style, usability etc… They can be very effective at driving consumers online so make sure you are happy with your overall brand.

4. Layout and order and key

Your customer will need to be able to navigate and use your product brochure and sales literature as quickly and easily as possible. Therefore you must ensure your best-selling products are clear and easy to find and order. You can also suggest ‘companion’ products which can be referred to on the same page, so that you can increase cross-selling and ultimately profit. Make the reading of your catalogue a ‘brand experience’ in itself.

5. Shout about your products

Customers should immediately be able to see how the products you are advertising will fit within their everyday lifestyle and working environment, and the benefits that the products will bring to them. Make sure the benefits and features of your products are clear and obvious so you customers are left in no doubt about how great your products are.

6. Most profit = most room!

Do you have particular products which return a great profit? Well let them show off! Using large photos of best-selling products within your catalogue will draw more attention from the customer, and could help you sell more of those profit-making lines. Put the ‘right-hand page’ effect to good use – it’s not just theory! Your customers will read your right hand page first so make sure it make an impact.

7. Plan ahead

By carefully planning and collating information you can provide your design agency a better brief, and in turn they can give you a much more effective and useful product catalogue or piece of sales literature. Make sure you work out your objectives, who your audience is, the message you want to portray, collect product photos or have a photoshoot done, write content or speak to a copywriter, gather all the product specifications you need, and work out any special offers or deals you are going to advertise.

And this is particularly prevalent amongst recent graduates struggling to even get ‘casual’ work.

The economy is still extremely unstable and showing very few signs of settling down. As a direct result of the recent doom and gloom, many people are finding themselves redundant and ‘jobless’, so setting up solo seems the perfect solution.

So why not go it alone…

That’s the question many budding entrepreneurs have asked themselves. And, to be honest, the answer is pretty simple… ‘Why not?’

Often developed from little acorns are ingenious, and sometimes downright wacky ideas, which lead to unusual and profitable ‘backyard enterprises’.

Here are our top Remarkable tips to successfully market your new little enterprise:

1. Advertise on a small, local scale… to start with at least
You might have big ideas, but it doesn’t mean you should try to compete straightaway with the market-leaders. You probably won’t be able to afford to either. That’s why you should choose a local and very friendly marketing agency such as Remarkable Design, Chester to work hard on your branding, advertising, and business image.

2. Offer incentives for wary purchases to ‘try before they buy’
If purchasers are unaware of your existence, the chances of them paying a high asking price may be remote. And everyone’s looking for a bargain at the moment too. So avoid losing sales by promoting your guarantees, or offering smaller versions of your product / service at a ‘special discount’.

3. Explore unconventional marketing methods
By using a local and very friendly marketing agency such as Remarkable Design, Chester, you will be able to work with a team of professionals adept at spotting marketing areas your competitors are overlooking.

4. Join forces with other small businesses
Why not contact some non-competing small businesses serving customers in your market. By working in collaboration, you could offer to publicise their products or services to your customers in exchange for them returning the favour. This normally produces a large volume of sales for a low cost, and low input.

5. There’s something to be said for loyalty
If your customers already know and trust you, it’s much easier to get repeat business than from someone who’s never bought from you.

So take advantage of this loyalty by creating special deals only for your existing customers. And make sure you announce new products and services to them first too.

6. Recommend a friend
Why not convert your happy customers into publicity agents for your business?

Develop a ‘recommend a friend’ incentive scheme to encourage existing customers to pass on your details. And by offering a small ‘thank you’, of course, there’s no better endorsement than word of mouth.

We all know the world is going digital, and whilst email and all things electronic have their uses you can’t beat good old-fashioned hard copy printed literature. And that includes compliment slips.

A ‘personal’ touch

This is where compliments slips are most effective.

A handwritten note shows someone has taken the time to think about you – and the same is true in business. Compliment slips acknowledge that you appreciate working relationships and they’re great for opening, and keeping open, an important line of communication. So make sure you pen a thoughtful message to your intended recipient.

The compliment slip is a great marketing tool

A compliment slip will enhance and improve customer or personal relations. We all want to ensure our business name is constantly, but subtly, in front of existing or potential customers. Containing your company branding, logo, address, and phone numbers the compliment slip is an easy way to regularly reinforce your company image.

Furthermore, compliment slips are a cost-effective way to informally keep in contact with your customers. If you have something to say that can’t be said in an email and doesn’t warrant wasting a letterhead… use a compliments slip.

And finally… use, don’t abuse, your compliment slips

Hands up if your compliment slips are chucked in a dusty pile lurking somewhere in the corner of your office?

Every time you need to post something – anything – to an existing, or potential, customer use a compliment slip. And make it a habit too because it really will work, honest.

Have we whetted your appetite?

If you feel your business needs some perfectly printed literature, why not talk to the Remarkable team today on 01244 671177 or email tim@itsremarkable.co.uk for a no-obligation chat.
